Whenever I ask myself whether eight Groezrocks in a row are way too much for a spanish or not, I always get the same quick and clear response: no they are not. And every single edition proves me right

. It is not only beacuse of the lineup (which this year was completely stunning) but also because it might be the best weekend of the whole year, and if you are reading this, you know why.
Once in a year, the little, quiet and calm neigbourhood of Meerhout becomes the perfect spot for punk rock/hardcore lovers to enjoy what they like most: live music, friends and belgium beer. This is the magic formula which is offered by Groezrock, and trust me, it works way too good. People from all over the world tavel to this tiny village in order to get inside the green and paceful fields which turn into dust and passion during 48 hours of non stop party. Everyone has the chance to enjoy it the way they want: differente stages, flea markets, drinking areas, food for everyone and lovely people. Everyone lives it in a different way and this is how I lived this Groezrock 2014.
After a few months waiting for this moment to come, I finally saw myself in the Main Stage waiting for Atlast Losing Grip to be the first band of my personal lineup. I know, I have seen them a few times alredy, but their catchy melodic hardcore was perfect to get me started with this year edition. Rodrigo and his mates never let you down, and with a great setlist and attitude they made everyone enjoy and smile. Im sure that his show would have fit better in the Etnies stage, but not complaining.
Once Atlas Losing Grip finished their set I visited the Jupiler and Jaggermeister stands. This is another good point of this festival. It doesn’t matter when you want to drink, service is fast and you don’t need to wait in line (a very important thing when you need to rush from one stage to another). Then I went to the Etnies Stage to see the show I was most excited about of the entire lineup: Red City Radio. As you probably know, Titles was my favourite record of 2013 and I missed these guys in 2012 edition, so I was really excited about this. Their show was great and you could tell there was passion in the air. «Show Me on the Doll Where The Music Touched You» , «Don’t Be a Hero, Find A Friend» or «Two For Flinching» were just a perfect link between the band and the audience and made me wish I coud see them play in a small venue in Spain. I think I’ll keep on dreaming…
This Groezrock edition was special, it was a looking back to the 90s, mainly because of NOFX and The Offspring who played their all time most famous albums: Punk In Drublic (1994) and Smash (1994). But at the same time, there were a few bands which brought me back to those dates. One of them was, without any kind of doubt, Bodyjar. Another one was New Found Glory who decided to play songs from their first records, making their show another revival. And what can I say about Descendents? It always good to see Milo again, even if they didn’t change their set too much and it was almost the same as two years ago …
Another cool hour of the day was from 17:20 to 18:40 when I could enjoy with two bands which split each other but which, at the same time, match in their sound: The Lawrence Arms and Iron Chic. The former were just meh, I think they are the kind of band that do it better in small venues than in main stages, but that’s only my point of view. The latter were amazing, just as they were one year ago when they set the Etnies Stage on fire!. Seeing this bands at Groezrock is great and it is happening lately since Groezrock got this kind of partnership with The Fest (Gainesville) which allow european fans to enjoy with this kind of emotional and honest punk rock. Thumbs up for making this happening!
As the day went by, I met new and old friends, I drunk jupiler and jagger shots and I spent time with cool people. Everything was great and I even had a pizza in the VIP/press room comfy and warm. Once I charged my batteries, I was ready for the final track of the day, one full of good memories: a few songs of Alkaline Trio and a few ones (far away from the stage) of Paint It Black. This is the only thing I could complain about: having such a big number of great bands makes you miss some parts of the sets and that kind of sucks, but I guess this means I’m in the right place to enjoy the music I Love. This time I missed Ignite (long time no see) and H2o (they always rock your socks, and I’m sure singing «What Happened?» with Skibba was one of the best moments of this edition) but this is how it goes.
At 00:00 the day was almost done, and after 12 «short hours» of music, NOFX were about to play Punk In Drublic (1994) in its totallity, what else could I ask for? I could ask for a nice spot between a huge crowd where I could sing, dance and mosh with nice people. And as If it was my lucky day, that happen from of a sudden! Once Fat Mike started singing, a nice group of people starting dancing next to me. I didn’t think it twice and joined them having the time of my life and feeling as If I were 20 years old again. Great concert, great setlist, great behaviour (we all know Fat Mike so far …) and great way of ending a show, singing Tony Sly’s «Shortest Pier». I was wearing a No Use For A Name hoodie and I got more hugs than ever. Fun!
In case you have enjoyed this spanish guy words (and his not proper english) and you want to know how the second day of the festival was, you just have to stay tunned and wait for it to come: it won’t take that long! Thanks for reading and talk soon !
