9.30 am. Saturday Morning. An alarm clock hit my head. That’s how my second day of Groezrock 2014 began. At least I was lucky enough and I could sleep several hours in a bed and I could have a shower too. At least I was lucky enough and I was waking up early to do what I love most: Listening to live music.
My real wake up call was, without any kind of doubt, Get Dead. This happened at 12:00 and, with a glass of beer in my hand and the chords of their first song, I was finally ready to live another great day. Great setlist and nice show. I was surprised about the audience: quite big in number (taking into account the hour of the day) and people singing along each of the band’s songs such as «Wellcome To Hell», «Bartender» or the amazing «Bunr Out». I love Sam King voice and It made me glad to realize I wasn’t the only one with nice taste.
After a great start, it was time for Elway to appear in the Monster Main Stage. Good memories came to me when I listened to «Passing Days», «Kristina’s last song» or «Whispers In A Shot Glass». They reminded me of Gainesville, The Fest and all the friends I made there back in 2012. New songs such as «Montreal» or «Ariel» where also fun to sing along and Tony Sly‘s tribute «Patria Mia (Room 20)» was the best final for another wonderful concert.
After these first two shows, I visited the merch tent and walk around for a while. Met some friends and got ready to go to the Press Room for the official premiere of the Mom’s Chili Burger, a vegan beanburger made by the awarded Just Like Your Mom Vegan Caterer. Something different and yummy at the same time. Thumbs up to vegan food! As I always say, festival ain’t all about the music. Meeting friends, spending time with them and trying new things are also important. I always appreciate this kind of moments!
Back to party (and this really suits the next bad), Snuff were about to play and to make us all dance with their great 90s punkrock filled with a nice wind section. I had a blast dancing and jumping around with all my friends. There’s only one song I really missed «Martin», but the setlist was great even without that hit. Fun!
It was 18:30 and I was kind of excited to see All for the first time in my life but, to be honest, the setlist (songs which were not really famous) and the voice (it was too low, under my point of view) left me with a bittersweet feeling. Im sure all fans of the band enjoyed the show more than I did, but to me it was just ok, even if I was happy to see them at least once. Right after them, another historical moment was about to happen: Screaching Weasel was going to play in Europe for the first time ever! Obviously, that show was a must, and I enjoyed (even if im not a huge fan of the band either) a lot. When I’m on shows, I like watching people faces while they are enjoying their favourite bands, and in those 30 minutes, all that I saw were happy faces. Good sign! I didn’t stay until the end of the show because I was anxious to see Modern Life Is War and I run to the Etnies Stage to get a nice spot.
What can I say about Modern Life Is War show? I knew it was going to be one of the best shows of this year edition. I wasn’t wrong. It was one of a hell show where both the band and the audience did their best. If only that show had lasted forever, if only the whole world had been inside that tent, then Modern Life would be peace. Feelings, passion, dust and hardcore. What else do we need? I think I’ll remember that show forever, and I am proud and happy to be one of the few who were there that afternoon.
With my heart in shock because of the great show I had just witnessed, I had to change my mind from hardcore to melodic hardcore and run to the Main Stage to watch New Found Glory. That is another advantage of Groezrock. The mix of musical genres is great, and there’s a moment for each of them. Fun show (as always) that one of New Found Glory, band which decided to play old song from their first records maybe to prepare the audience for the biggest flashback ever: The Offspring playing Smash.
«Ahhh It’s time to Relax, You know what that means…» Who doesn’t know one of the most famous intros ever? That was the opening for an epic show where everyone who was there travelled back to 1994. The Offpsring did an amazing good job, and played the whole Smash album almost in order. They just skipped «Self Esteem» and played it right after the official last track of the album : «Smash». Listening to anthems such as «Bad Habit», «So Alone» «Something To Believe In» or «What Happened To You?» felt great! The band sounded perfect and knowing that some of those songs were just being played for first time in a long time made it even more special. Epic show for another epic Groezrock edition.
I just want to finish saying thanks to everyone who worked or volunteered at Groezrock. We were really well treated no matter where we went. Press room area, all the accesses we went through and all the info and help we asked for. Thank you very much for making that weekend the best weekend of the year (once again). See you next year wit more friends and more bands!!!
